The voice of reason (aka my wife) convinced me not to fish on Saturday w/ Irene bearing down on the mid Atlantic. Instead, I built a couple of fly rods, both 7′ 6″ 1 wt’s. I built one this last winter and have had an absolute blast using it for brookies and on small mountain streams. It also worked well gently presenting ants in skinny water on the Gunpowder a couple of weeks ago. In terms of rod building, I’m still very much a rookie. I recently invested in a small drying motor and am excited to see the resulting epoxy. Here a couple of pics of the pre-epoxy rods. Rod blanks are a reddish dark brown.
